Abstract of NL1028843C

The secure robot arm is for supporting the practice of handwriting and is protected by passive infrared sensors and dynamic tactile sensors and can be used by children with poor fine motorial ability. Up until now, passive infrared sensors have only been used to allow a robot to be manoevred without impact in a room and dynamic tactile sensors are still only employed to allow displacement of a robot. - It is possible for the robot arm to have two ''elbows'' which are used for horizontal movement. A vertical mechanism is provided in which a pen is fixed and the writing movement is computer controlled. During the writing movement, the written letters are clearly visible. The text to be written is visible on a monitor and the writing speed of the robot arm is adjustable. The writing pen is the direct man-machine interface and is suitable for both left and right-handed persons. The inclined position per child is easily adjustable and after adjustment the movement freedom is limtied to a circle with a diameter of a maximum of 5 mm.
